S&S Sketch Challenge #36....

My mojo seems to be coming and going, lately, so I've been on the lookout for sketches. OWH Stars and Stamps had this one...

Don't faint...the main stamp isn't Unity. A new to me stamp company, Rubberstamp Ave, had some excellent dog stamps...so I bought some sets to try. This 'lil pug puppy jumped out and demanded to be colored:

Supplies used:

Scenic Route Metropolis
random cardstock
Rubberstamp Ave pug puppy
Ippity - Just wanted to say, sentiment
Memento ink

H{I}ppity Hop....

I'm horribly late today....our dog adoption event yesterday, coupled with my stuff being packed from scrapping with friends on Saturday, weren't a good combo.

And my mojo? Yeah. Vacation! :D

But, after scrapping several ideas - literally, into the round file....

All Things Unity - Think Pink!

The challenge is....think pink. Use pink in honor of October's National Breast Cancer Awareness month. And tell the story that inspired your card.

First, the card.

Supplies used:
Unity's July store kit of the month
Junkitz paper, Mom collection
random kraft cardstock
Georgia Pacific white cardstock
Prima flower
random brad
Copic markers
Memento ink
Distress ink, worn lipstick and tattered rose

Now, the story.

For the most part, I've been incredibly lucky. My life hasn't been touched, directly, by breast cancer. The friends of friends, acquaintances, etc.

But when I was a young child, very young, my grandmother had a mastectomy for suspected breast cancer. In that time, and in my family, these things were Not Talked About. Even if they were, I *was* very young.

I found out by using the other bathroom one night, in an emergency...and finding her prosthesis.

This was probably the first realization of my young life that the adults in my life were NOT invincible, and things do happen, and one day, they'd be....gone.

My grandmother lived many more years. And cancer didn't take her in the end.

But the impetus of things that were Not Talked About is how the Susan G. Komen foundation came to be. Susan asked her sister to break the silence...to open these doors...and to make things different for others.

And, her sister...did.

So, my colors are pink....but muted, for all of the people and years where things were Not Talked About. And the sentiment carries that truth...when you hold someone in your heart, hold them forever. Don't let them fall victim to silence. Scream from the rooftops if you need to. Hold their heart in yours, and make sure they're HEARD.

We've come a long way, in breast cancer research, and in things that are "not discussed" in polite company. But there's a ways to go, in many families, I'm sure.

My pink is in honor of the silence that is now broken. And this card will go to Operation Write Home, with others, so someone else can know that they're held in someone's heart. Tigger, if you should see this...this one's for MaryKay.

And that, my friends, is enough introspection from me.

Thanks for looking....

Unity Addict Challenge #18....

This week's challenge - create your own background paper.

What's that? Been there, done that? You might think so, but....there's a twist.

You may not use stamps.

Use any other method you desire to create your background paper...but no stamping....

This started as a piece of Core'dinations pearl white cardstock. I used Tim Holtz' plaid technique, with alcohol ink, to get a blue and purple plaid:

Supplies used:

Unity Stamps - Bevy of Butterflies
Core'dinations pearl cardstock
random cardstock
grungepaper
Memento ink - black and bamboo leaves
Archival black ink
Distress ink - tumbled glass and dusty concord
random hotfix rhinestones
random brass charm, eBay

Flower Soft....

Is there an end to the cool toys? NOPE!

Flower Soft is running a new set of challenges on SCS. Since I have a couple of jars that have been, well, neglected...I took a stab at last week's.

Supplies used:

Random cardstock
Basic Grey Sultry
Unity August kit of the month
distress inks
SU lace
Flower Soft - ultra fine strawberry

The shape was cut on my Gazelle. Have you seen this? Penny Duncan Creations - she has an amazing array of shapes and various cut files for different cutters. I absolutely love being able to size my shape to my stamp, and make a mat as big or small as I want...

Motivated to play along? This week's challenge is here. :)

And just for fun...a couple more random Operation Write Home cards.

Happy Saturday!

Most years, I spend Labor Day weekend...ripping apart something in my house, and remodeling it. Since I've done too much of that lately, my goal is to put together some cards for Operation Write Home.

So, I sliced up a bunch of paper, and went looking for a few challenges to inspire me. :)

The first one I've found is at Mark's Finest Paper, challenge 19...to use 5 of something. I decided to use 5 rhinestones on a simple style birthday card:

Supplies used:

Random cardstock
American Crafts pearl cardstock for the butterfly
Black Market Paper Society paper - I miss them...
Unity's August kit of the month for the fabulous Wish sentiment
Twinkling H2O's for the candle
random hotfix rhinestones

The second card I have to share came from a Paper Crafts sketch, from the Go To Sketches book. It's pretty unusual for me to use a non-Unity stamp lately. But I fell in love with this goofy 'lil pup by Stamps by Judith.

Supplies used:

Random scraps from my scrap bin
random cardstock
copic markers
MM flower brad

Friends with Flair....

...or, how I spent my Thursday afternoon. :) Friends with Flair is Unity's Friday blog hop - visit the Unity blog to see the full list of today's FWF!

This project started off as musing about the Simon Says Stamp challenge to use layers. I was playing with a few things, not really "clicking"...and I...dreamed about this one. What came to be isn't precisely like my dream, but pretty darn close.

(Yeah, I know. Dreaming about my stamps? But please don't cure me.)

And a couple of close-ups...

Supplies used:

Unity Stamps - She, Worn Music, and Distressed Dots
Grungepaper. Lots and lots of grungepaper.
And lots and lots of ink. LOL! Distress ink, CTMH white pigment ink, Smooch, Ranger archival black
Glimmer mist, several colors
random metal objects, colored with alcohol inks
Distress stickles, broken china and rock candy
vintage button
random pearls

Thanks for looking!
